I HOST THIS OPEN MIC

Shaun Litton

Sign up from 6:30 PM downstairs at the bar. All singers, musicians and songwriters welcome. Great stage, sound system, several mics and a grand piano provided. This openmic has been running since 2001 and is very popular and famous. We recommend you arrive early to sign up.

GOOT's Review
@ The Spice of Life

Excellent venue, one of the best in London. Great sound and light quality. The crowd is very welcoming and listenful. Lots of talented musicians come to perform there every week.

As it's a busy night, we recommend you come early to sign up, musicians start to queue up in the stairs that lead to the stage room even before 6:00 PM.

I maintain this as being the best open mic in London. This must be quite a widespread view as, typically, there are performers queueing at the door from around 4:30pm onwards to secure a slot! The night is hosted by Shaun, a skilled performer himself, who also runs the Substance Gigs promotion company. On a typical night, there will be over 25 performers performing mostly original music until around 11, and Shaun is a stickler for quick changeovers where possible - so always make sure you're in tune before you hit the stage! You are always guaranteed a respectful listening at the Spice of Life, and it's worth performing there for its musical heritage alone!

A real mix of talented artists. The host asks everyone to respect the artists and listen, so a great place to play if you don't want background noise. Gets very busy, so you need to arrive early for sign up. They also have a house piano.

London
excellent sound, amazing acts, attentive crowd, house grand piano. the only downside is that it's usually very busy so make sure you get there around 5.00/5.30 to get good slot, but it's definitely worth the queue.

Long wait, so get there early if you want to play before 10. However the crowd really stuck around till the last performer which was cool. The host is a madly energetic lad named shaun, can't go wrong there

This is an extremely popular open-mic in the heart of London. High standard of musicianship, good audience participation and a good place to build relationships with other musical folk. We went down well there and were offered a paid gig by the guy who runs it.

Very popular venue in central London. Good stage and sound, audience appreciates music. Great for networking. Arrive early to secure a slot though due to the high demand.

London
Good sound, well organized. Two songs each, just enough. Good, polite and silent crowd. They have a very good house piano which helps diversify the acts and change from guitar-voice acts.
